The Tom Ford Guide to Looking Incredible Right Now

The Tom Ford Guide to Looking Incredible Right Now

Front row at Tom Ford

Follow the leader.

Velvet suits. Furry coats. Python pants. To say that this cozy-opulent, ‘70s-obsessed time in menswear is within Tom Ford’s repertoire would be an understatement. Ford traded in this type of, dare we say, sensuous style back when today’s best- and wildest-dressed guys, people like Cam Newton and Odell Beckham Jr., were still in onesies (and long before one of them was in an almost-romper and wearing animal tails). No surprise then that the front row at Ford’s Fall/Winter 2019 show last night had plenty of extremely-now menswear inspiration. These specific clothes might be reserved for the bravest and richest style tribes, but anyone can take notes from a master like Ford.

Some designers are all about bright athletic-wear right now, others are into a trippy hippie vibe, but Tom Ford does bold color the rich-guy way with monochromatic layers in preppy pastel shades. A-Rod approves.

Dress Up Like It’s Your Job

Suits have done a 180 and are now the uniform of style rebels. Tom Ford makes clothes for C-suite guys, so his rebel suit is metallic and druggy, like something out of a Baz Luhrmann movie.

Speaking of Luhrmann, even he was there! With Tom Ford’s help he and Sebastian Stan quietly reminded us regulars that brown doesn’t have to feel stuffy and professorial or tied to your grandpa’s basement carpet. It can be as luxe-y and slick as any hue in your wardrobe.

You know you’re fully committed to wild, no-rules style when you’re spending Tom Ford prices on animal-print outerwear. 2019’s boldest prints take their cues from the Texan-born designer’s brain: big, bold, and a little badass.

If you’re going to wear sweats and sneakers and T-shirts, do it like a Tom Ford man, which is exactly like a pro athlete, and wear an extremely bossy coat on top.

You don’t need to know who these two guys are to know that they’re important. Anyone confident enough to encase their neck in this much fabric is a boss (that includes you).
