The Blues’ £71.6m goalkeeper was dropped from the starting XI for the 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Wednesday.

The decision came following the Carabao Cup final saga, after which Sarri felt it was the right move to punish the 24-year-old.

Back-up Willy Caballero deputised in goal for the crunch Premier League clash with Spurs and managed to keep a clean sheet.

Another local derby in Fulham now awaits Chelsea at Craven Cottage on Sunday (2.05pm) as they look to keep in close touch with their top-four rivals.

And asked if Kepa will be in goal against Fulham, Sarri said: “As I said in the press conference after the [Tottenham] match, the Kepa situation is closed.

“Kepa is our first [choice] goalkeeper, but we are very happy for Willy that he can play in a very difficult match.

“Kepa will be on the pitch for one of the next two matches.

“I have not decided yet, I want to see the last two trainings of course, for every player.

“On Sunday we played 120 minutes and 95 on Wednesday”

“On Sunday we played 120 minutes and 95 on Wednesday. We ran for 15km on Sunday on average and Wednesday was 12km, so we have to consider it.”

If Caballero does start ahead of Kepa, then the Spain international will play in Thursday’s Europa League round of 16 first leg at home to Dynamo Kiev.

Asked about any potential injuries picked up, Sarri added: “No, I don’t think so.

“I need to value the recovery of every player and then decide. We need to change three or four players.”

Chelsea go into the weekend’s games three points off fourth-placed Arsenal, who take on north London neighbours Tottenham in third at Wembley tomorrow.

In-form Manchester United, who are fifth and two points clear of the Blues, host struggling Southampton tomorrow too (3pm).
