That’s the opinion of former Everton midfielder Leon Osman, who thinks that the clash is more important for Rangers than it is for Celtic.

Gerrard’s side are 10 points behind the Hoops going into the Old Firm showdown and anything other than a win would surely end their title hopes.

Rangers have been huffing and puffing all season but ultimately have been unable to stay with the champions up until this point.

The Gers have already been knocked out of both domestic Cup competitions and the Europa League.

And Osman thinks that Gerrard needs to prove to the board that the club are still moving in the right direction.

He also thinks that losing to Celtic could possible spell the end for star man Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

“I think it’s a bigger game for Rangers,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Celtic have not been great this season, yet they are 10 points ahead. Morelos has been massive for Rangers.

Gerrard’s comments come after:

“He’s going to come under interest you would expect in the summer.

“Are they [Rangers] going to compete next season? They might lose him. Celtic will recruit.

“I think for Steven Gerrard, for Rangers, for belief, for showing the board that he’s still taking the club in the right direction.

“I think it’s a really big game for Rangers. They have to make sure they don’t, at least lose the game. Can they put in a performance in to win?”

Gerrard has spoken out about his worry over the fitness of some of his players after returning back from international duty.

Rangers had 10 players away with their respective countries and there was some bad news as Borna Barisic returned from Croatia duty with a hamstring issue.

He told RangersTV: “First and foremost they have obviously done well to be called up and it is great to see them getting international recognition.

“But from my point of view, I was just sitting at home hoping they all come back fit and available.

“Obviously we have had a bit of a setback with Borna [Barisic], who has a bit of a hamstring problem which makes him a huge doubt for the weekend.
