He is currently still serving an 18-month doping ban but that ends on December 31.

Nasri has impressed staff in training and convinced West Ham to hand him a short-term deal.

The 31-year-old has landed a six-month contract until the end of the season.

The deal is worth up to £80,000-a-week although that is made up of heavily-incentivised clauses.

West Ham will then have the option for a 12-month extension in the summer if Nasri shines on the field.

The imminent signing won’t be available for Sunday’s trip to Burnley as he must wait until the turn of the year.

Besiktas’ versatile Chilean Gary Medel is being pursued, while Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama is also a target.

The Hammers have coped through December despite their problems, enjoying the best month in their Premier League history.

A stunning five wins in six games sees them head into the New Year with momentum.

In the 2-1 victory at Southampton last night, Pellegrini had to start academy winger Grady Diangana, back-up striker Lucas Perez and out-of-favour Pedro Obiang.

It is feasible, as a result, that Nasri will get some minutes in the Brighton clash if he proves he is now match fit.
